Hay-on-Wye is a village in Wales, famous for its dozens of secondhand bookshops - a paradise! One visit, I set about photographing every bookshop I could. Because the streets are so narrow, it's impossible to get the whole of each bookshop in shot - so I photographed each part and lovingly assembled them in Photoshop. It's impossible to describe just how many books are in Hay - Richard Booth is crammed over three huge floors; the castle has them heaped in every room and even standing outside, exposed to the wind and snows; every shop is a trove - treasured books, neglected books, orderly labelled alphabetical wooden shelves and wonky higgledypiggledy tumbling down shelves... So of course I had to photograph the books as well. (Click on any photo to enlarge it.)
